You get what you measure! This is one of our key farm tools – an excel into which we input weekly all of our key metrics. The metrics automatically generate some selected key graphs so that we can easily and visually monitor our actual vs our target for our key metrics on a weekly basis. This tool is critical to our business. We would be lost without it. It also helps us to have a fantastic record week by week for all our seasons so that we can do a historical week by week comparison of any of the key metrics we measure eg mastitis, grass grown, feed, stock numbers etc.
This is a simple excel format but very beneficial for any dairy farm. Simply input your actual numbers and targets and then monitor progress against your target. The graphs that this excel creates area Safety, Quality, Production weekly, Production weekly cumulative, Animal Weights, Animal deaths. But you can easily create duplicate graphs to graph any of the other measures monitored in the spreadsheet. ย You can also print out the graphs like we do and display them on your visual management boards for the team to see progress live.
